Description:

A Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO) breath test using glucose as the substrate.

The breath test measures hydrogen and methane gasses in response to glucose. If SIBO is present, bacteria in your small intestine will begin to metabolise glucose, producing hydrogen and/or methane gas, which will be picked up by the test. Telling us that bacteria has overgrown in the small intestine – We do not want bacteria in the small intestine, as it’s abundance should be further down the digestive tract in the large intestine.

A positive SIBO breath test, provides you with the knowledge to know if you will need to undertake a GUT protocol to remove the bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.

Methodology:

This 3-hour Glucose SIBO breath test offers valuable insights into small and large intestine health.

It assesses hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4) gas levels post-glucose ingestion detecting SIBO. Early increased gas detection indicates SIBO.

Remaining glucose identifies colonic fermentation and/or the presence of methanogenesis.

Carbon Dioxide is measured to ensure sample viability.

The SIBO Glucose test uses Quintron BreathTracker SC instruments, the industry standard for breath hydrogen and methane analysis via gas chromatography incorporating solid-state sensors.  This is an innovative approach that combines the principles of gas chromatography (GC) with the sensing capabilities of solid-state sensors.  In this technique, the sample is vaporised and injected into a chromatographic column, where it separates into its constituent compounds based on their interactions with the column material.  As the compounds elute from the column, they come into contact with solid-state sensors capable of detecting specific analytes.  These sensors produce electrical signals in response to the presence of target compounds, allowing for real-time detection and quantification.
