The Helicobacter pylori (H.Pylori) Antigen Stool test detects antigens towards H. Pylori in the stool i.e. is your body mounting an immune response to the presence of H.Pylori in the GUT.

Methodology:

  • The H. Pylori Antigen test utilises Enzyme immunoassay (EIA) antibody tests which are widely used diagnostic tools designed to detect the presence of specific antibodies in biological samples, such as serum or plasma.
  • These assays rely on the principle of antigen-antibody binding and utilise enzymes to generate a measurable signal.
  • In an EIA antibody test, antigens corresponding to the target antibody are immobilised onto a solid surface, such as a microplate well.
  • The sample containing the antibodies of interest is then added to the well, allowing any antibodies present in the sample to bind to the immobilised antigen.
  • After washing away unbound components, an enzyme-linked secondary antibody is added, which binds specifically to the target antibody.
  • Subsequent addition of a substrate for the enzyme triggers a colorimetric or chemiluminescent reaction, producing a detectable signal.
  • The intensity of the signal is proportional to the amount of target antibody present in the sample, allowing for qualitative or quantitative analysis.
