Naturopathic nutrition is a holistic approach to health that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of your health concerns.
Naturopathic nutritional therapists do not tend to focus on calorie restriction, especially when it is followed over the long term, because the reality is, this often leads to nutrient depletion, poor health and a dysfunctional metabolism. Instead they work to reset your metabolism via optimal cellular health including mitochondrial function, GUT health and blood sugar balance to manage cravings and reduce inflammation.
A naturopathic nutritional therapist trains for a minimum of 4 years, are members of professional associations and do a minimum of 30 hours additional professional naturopathic and nutrition training per year. We are also bio-medicine and pharmacologically trained and are able to work safely with those on pharmaceutical medications.
Our focus is on correcting and preventing health issues through personalised nutrition, lifestyle changes, natural medicine and functional medicine testing that focuses on well being, hormone balance, reduced inflammation, optimised metabolism via various mechanisms including optimal cellular health, optimised Gut health, mitochondrial function and blood sugar balance.
We aim to address underlying issues such as hormone imbalances, gut dysfunction, and inflammation, tailoring our recommendations to your unique needs. This approach ensures we support your body’s natural healing processes while helping you achieve long-term health improvements.
“I was referred to Natalie by my psychologist who I’d been seeing for depression. Natalie quickly picked up on my GUT health complaints & believed these were one of the issues behind my depression. Within weeks I was going to toilet more regularly, which I’d not done for 20 years and my GUT issues like bloating, burping & constipation soon disappeared. Months later I also started to feel more mentally stable and eventually with agreement from my psychologist managed to reduce my anti-depressants. This has been a game changer for me. Highly recommended!” Fiona, Hove East Sussex.
Functional Laboratory Testing
We work closely with a number of testing laboratories including bloods, GUT and microbiome testing, nutrigenomics and DNA testing, as well as viral, food & chemical sensitivity testing laboratories.
Our close connection with these laboratories means we can bespoke our testing services to your personal needs where appropriate.
The key difference between a naturopathic nutritional therapist and some of the nutritionists you may find in gyms is the level of training. Many gym based nutritionists have completed short, online courses, often lasting only three – six months in duration and focus predominantly on weight loss via calorie restriction and meal planning. While weight management is an important aspect of health and calorie restriction in the short term can be beneficial, it is often not sustainable and if practiced on a long term basis can lead to nutrient depletion and poor overall health outcomes. These practitioners may also lack the deeper understanding of biomedicine, pharmacology, micro-nutrients, orthomolecular nutrients and the bodies own synthesised endogenous nutrients that are all crucial for addressing complex health issues including ADHD symptom management, disordered eating patterns and addiction.
In contrast, naturopathic nutritional therapists complete a rigorous four year education, which includes in-depth training in biomedicine, pharmacology, and clinical practice. We are fully insured and trained to work with a variety of health conditions, can competently prescribe supplements and we consider not only your diet but also your broader health picture, lifestyle, potential underlying imbalances and genetic variations.
Unlike dietitians, who often follow conventional approaches and focus on managing symptoms by applying sticky plasters over the presenting issues, naturopathic nutritional therapists aim to address the root cause of health problems. Our goal is to help you heal from within, using a combination of nutritional therapy, functional medicine, natural medicines and lifestyle changes. We do this by working with you via one of our health reset plans, we start by identifying your root imbalances via an in-depth health assessment, and then support you via a bespoke and sustainable plan which we guide you through over a period of sessions to help reset your health.
“Natalie supported me with nutrition during my cancer journey but has also given me guidance on life-style changes, supplements, and testing. Natalie didn’t underestimate my mental health, so I have also been working with Kirsty to support my mindfulness, helping me know when to switch off, and manage my stress”
John, Hove East Sussex.
